As you may remember, Kathleen, Matthew, Eddie, Boy Rita and myself went to Belize in early April. We stayed on Caye Caulker, a tiny island off the coast, that is about 5 miles long and 1 mile wide.  Our trip was wonderful; Caye Caulker (and Belize) was beautiful, the food was fresh and delicious and the people are awesome. We had such a great time and were plotting a return trip before we had even left. I really can’t do Caye Caulker or Belize any justice without posting hundreds of pictures but here are a few of my favorites…

The Split- Great swimming + boozing spot

No cars on Caye Caulker- just bikes and golf carts

The Lazy Lizard- our favorite bar

The day of the now infamous Green Lizard drink challenge

Pre- German friends and fire pits

Sailing & Snorkeling Trip- Sharks before we all jumped in with them

Sharks & Sting Rays

Green Turtle or as Eddie thought- Attack turtle

Garden 2011

June 11th, 2011 by Girl Rita

Yes, it has been a loong time since I’ve posted- sorry about that!

I’ve had quite a number of blog requests, an update on our garden being one of them. Things in our garden are going GREAT this year- we think it’s the weekly addition of our compost tea (which we call poop tea because that’s what it smells like). Also, last year we made notes on what seemed to grow well up here and what didn’t, so we have less variety. We also connected the 2 squares we had last year so we now have more space :)

Here’s a garden overview:

In the first square we have lettuce (4 types), radishes (2 types) and herbs.

The top 3 rows are all lettuce (not quite sure what we were thinking on that one).

As for herbs we have curly and flat parsley, summer savory, cilantro, marjoram and basil.

The next square is all tomato plants (13 total). We have a number of heirloom plants from the farmers market (Juliet, Sun Gold, Green Zebra, Paul Roberson and some others I can’t remember) as well as Roma and Beefsteak.

We have a few tomatoes coming in and all of the plants have lots of flowers:

In the final square we have peaches n’ cream corn, green beans, cucumber, striped eggplant, peppers (5 varieties of both spicy and sweet), icicle radishes (can you tell BR and I have a strange love of radishes?)  and carrots.

Our cucumber plant is especially taking off:

There are also a few things that wouldn’t fit in the garden, like mint (for cocktails, very important stuff), rosemary and oregano.

And we moved our strawberries from last year to a small patch in the back of our yard. This year they are actually producing ;)

And finally, BR and I stumbled upon some cascade hops and couldn’t pass them by. They are in a large pot behind the house…

And are currently growing up a piece of twine that is attached to the roof.

We also have copious amounts of impatiens (my fave!):

And last but not least, Peggy requested a photo of the recent birthday boy with his birthday gift- a charcoal grill. Here he is!

More posts to come…maybe Belize next?

Almost time for Beliiiiiizzzzzzzzzzzze!

March 20th, 2011 by Girl Rita

Things have been crazy busy at work for both BR and I! We don’t anticipate anything slowing down before we head to Beliiiiiizzzzze so this is probably my last post before we return from Belize and I post some crazy awesome action and tanning photos from our trip :)

We’ve been up to the usual…hanging with our dawgs:

We are so cute and pathetic!

And we’ve also had some fun visitors! First Kathol, John, Polisher & Michaeline came to visit. Our weekend consisted mainly of beach walks and drinking (sounds fun, right?). There were also some threats (by John) to go swimming in the Sound.

Empty threats

That weekend we also celebrated my 31st birthday and BR made me an amazing key lime pie. Here it is in all its glory…part of it is blacked out because BR put my social security number on it. Yes, he is crazy.

The following weekend we had visitors again- this time it was Peggy, Geo, Kathol, Polisher & Michaeline. The weekend consisted of delicious food, drinking, beach walking and DDR (dance dance revolution).

Gorgeous beach walk

This weekend I bottled a white wine (Semillon) and BR and I ran a 5 mile race. It was a blast- it felt so great to get back into running (I haven’t run all winter long- it’s too damn cold!).

Well, I hope everyone’s doing well…this time in 2 weeks we’ll be in Beliiiiiiizzzzzzzzze. It is going to be the most well deserved vacation EVER!
